CyberPatrol Lists and Filtering
What if there's a website that CyberPatrol blocks that I think is ok for my family to visit?
A. CyberPatrol's filtering settings are quick and easy to customize and change at any time. Using CyberPatrol's password-protected Headquarters, you can select specific sites they would like to either allow or block. So, if you'd like to allow access to a site that CyberPatrol blocks simply override the CyberLIST by adding them to your list of My Allowed Sites. Conversely, if the CyberLIST permits access to a site you want blocked, you can add it to your list of My Blocked Sites.
How do you decide which websites go in the CyberLIST and which category they go in?
A. CyberPatrol provides you with a wide range of features to help you select which sites or types of sites you deem suitable for your users, according to their needs and values. CyberPatrol is flexible and allows you the final say in what is and what is not filtered on the Internet. It does this by letting you add specific sites to your lists of My Allowed Sites and My Blocked Sites, which override the CyberLIST categorization. The criteria for categorization of each of the 13 CyberLIST categories is published on our website. Content is sourced by a team of 40+ professional researchers, state-of-the-art automated tools, and customer submissions to gather the most widely accessed and relevant content on the Internet. Categorization is verified by site exploration and careful comparison with our published criteria. The Internet changes rapidly and it's impossible for any filtering vendor to catch all sites, as new ones can be published within minutes. So those not yet categorized in the CyberLIST are analyzed by CyberPatrol's Web Page Analysis and CyberPATTERNS technology and, where applicable, dynamically classifies them in to one of the 13 CyberLIST categories.
How often is the CyberLIST updated and how do I receive the updates?
A. The full CyberLIST is updated weekly. You can choose the frequency of when updates are checked and downloaded, CyberPatrol can automatically query our list download server each day or week to ensure you always have the most current list, or you have the option to do it manually.
How does CyberPatrol filter?
A. CyberPatrol uses multiple technologies to filter the Internet. At the heart of CyberPatrol is its CyberLIST, which effectively is a list of sites that are divided into one of 13 categories. You are given the option of choosing which or all of the 13 categories of sites you wish to allow, filter or block and there's the option to customize and override CyberPatrol's filtering settings using the your own lists of My Allowed Sites or My Blocked Sites. Thereby putting you in control over what sites you wish your users to visit on the Internet.
CyberPatrol also uses two other filtering technologies, these being Web Page Analysis and CyberPATTERNS. They have been introduced as the Internet changes so rapidly it's impossible for any filtering vendor to capture all the sites on Web, as new ones can be published within minutes. These filtering technologies dynamically analyze sites not yet captured in the CyberPatrol CyberLIST. Combining these three filtering technologies with CyberPatrol's other safety features, such as time management and User/Group Profiles, you can fully customize filtering for any number of users of your PC and at any time of the day.
The CyberLIST categorizes websites into 13 categories from which you can select to match your filtering needs. By selecting a CyberLIST category, you can tailor the level of filtering to meet the needs of each Internet user. Plus, when combined with other CyberPatrol features such as time settings, and user-group profiles you can ensure customized filtering for different members of your family at different times of the day.
Can I restrict Internet access to a list of my own specific sites?
A. This is a popular request that many parents of young children ask. You can create a list of My Allowed Sites and information that allows access to just those sites you have chosen; information on how to do this is available on our Support Page [link to: this question on the support section of the website]. It is also useful to know that since each user can have customized filtering settings using the User Profile feature, it doesn't have to restrict other users Internet access.
How much does it cost to upgrade to the latest version?
A. If you have a valid CyberPatrol subscription, then upgrading to the latest version is FREE, as we are committed to ensuring that our customers have access to CyberPatrol's latest safety and security features. With the Internet changing rapidly, the only way to stay ahead of the new challenges is for CyberPatrol to continually update and improve its program.
